From trauma to transformation
Hi! I am Dr. Heather Brister, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 16 years of experience helping people break free from stuck patterns and heal from past trauma. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by advanced clinical training at the Durham VA and Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System.
While my background is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and DBT-informed skills, my practice centers heavily on transformative experiential work. I don't just talk about problems; we actively work through them. Using deeper, creative methods like Schema Therapy and Chairwork, we bypass intellectualizing to safely process old emotional wounds, transform deep-seated negative beliefs, and create real, lasting emotional shifts in the room.
I also hold specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and Hoarding Disorders, and have extensive experience helping individuals navigate severe trauma and overwhelming emotions. I take a collaborative, behavioral approach that honors your inherent resilience while teaching you tangible tools to build a life of meaning and purpose.
Clients describe me as warm, funny, open, and deeply dedicated to their growth.
